Sun artworks

The last day of term saw the finishing touches  made to  Room 5's artworks.

The artists did a fabulous job of using the correct paintbrush grip to form brush strokes. Might sound easy, but not when you are new to school. Well done Room 5!

Matariki

Today Room 5 celebrated  the Maori New Year by listening to the story Matariki and then making the 7 stars  that we see in the sky in June.

What's up during Discovery time this week?

Tessa, Harrison and Kayden made some playdough creations. They asked each other nicely to pass the equipment when they needed it.

Harrison and Mana-Soul worked together to
make a Robot City out of Lego,
Super sharing boys.

The children had lots of fun experimenting with how to make different marble runs. They explored how to make the marbles roll fast.Look at  how Alana is waiting her turn.

Molly and Levi had fun playing in the
 fish 'n' chip shop.

Cruz got Miss Lagan's order of fish 'n' chips  ready .
He  checked if she wanted salt and sauce with her order.

Super Mathematicians.

Great maths today Harrison and Masha. You should be proud of yourselves.

A New Shop Opens in Room 5.

Thanks to Mr Boniface we have our very own shop to develop  financial literacy skills during Discovery Time.
This week the children have been learning to add up the cost of their goods and purchase them using $1 coins.

Silas had to pay $10 for his groceries. Cruz said he paid too much money and gave him back $1.I wonder how much money Silas gave Cruz?

Kayden said his groceries are going to cost him $5 because the biscuits are $2 and the margarine is $3.

The boys and girls in Room 5 love to shop!
Next week they will learn to substitute $1 for 2, 50 cent coins.

Smarty Pants

Room 5 maths learners had been exposed to simple addition in class. They had learnt that the symbol + means join 2 groups together, and = means count how many there are altogether.
The children had read the story Smarty Pants so maths was integrated into their Fun Day Friday activity.
They had to show how many coloured patches they put on  Smarty Pants's pants.

Now we need to find out why Smarty Pants had holes in his pants that needed mending with patches?
Perhaps our readers might have some ideas to share with us.
